Help me out here, people. The cartoon on the left is a classic, which Mr. Internet says In These Times ran in ‘89. That seems a about right, time-wise. I want to ask what the hell kind of person would look at it and say “That’s hilarious, but it’ll be so. much. better when I redo it artlessly!” That invites a psychological view, but — in keeping with the subject (“But of course!”) — the answer probably spans several disciplines. This kind of thing happens all the time. Why do people do this? How could someone look at the one on the right and think “Now that is how it should be!”?
