This is a great window into the kinds of discussions involved in how the news should cope with the problem of ‘fake news.’ On the left is the NYT’s front page, on the right is the page it links to. Fox has been faking news for decades, nothing new there. What is new, I think, is that the Murdoch machine will foment civil war before it’ll rethink its position. It’s not “failing to unite a nation,” it’s actively working to destroy the US government. If that sounds like an exaggeration, what’s a better way to describe things like advocating the arrest of losing candidates and a putsch in the Justice Department? So the NYT names names on the front page — that’s great “clickbait” — and equivocates on the story page. The tell is in the neither/nor URL: “russia-presidential-election-media.html.”
