Delighted to see James Love got some quality column inches here, partly because his remarks at the end show more specifically why Martin Shkreli is a structural asshole. Like Shkreli, Heather Bresch is price-gouger, but in a different way. Her company Mylan relies heavily on generics, so much of what they do is basically progressive — and, in that context, Bresch’s political connections could be helpful. IOW, they aren’t immoral as such. I’m not defending Bresch or Mylan in any way: I think pharma has a fundamental hippocratic obligation to make emergency treatments as widely available as possible on a global level, and I’d like to see political connections used toward that, not her pay. Pavlovian outrage is boring — look for pathways to turn f-ed situations toward better ends.
