Maybe one of those “future historians” will describe how everyone started to crank up photo saturation to compensate for the graying imposed by social media compression algorithms, and how this arms race gradually forgot us — the opposite of taught us — to see older colors. I doubt it, though: it’s worth considering but isn’t true, and anyway future historians is an oxymoron. There’ll be people who look backwards, but they won’t be historians as we now understand them; instead, what they do will shift subtly, just our sense of color has.
