Good morning! I’m going to start the day in a positive way, with a story about the efforts of US corporations to protect us from one of the evils of modern life — roboocalls. Except there’s just one thing: relentless robocalls aren’t a problem in Europe and, I assume many other parts of the world. It’s a US thing. My own anecdatal suggests this is true, like when three mobile phones in my house all ring at the same time with robocalls from the same number. Which sort of suggests that it isn’t really a technical problem at all, it’s a regulatory problem. So, for example, if Congress passed a law (I know…) fining mobile providers $1 per robocall and the FCC built a system to enforce it (I know…) that sh*t would stop IMMEDIATELY. It’s sort of like assault rifles, which are mercurial creatures that elude every US effort to define them — whereas in New Zealand, where they were defined overnight. 🤔 So here’s my positive conclusion: the US is a fantasyland where the impossible happens and the impossible can’t happen. Have a Nice Day. 🌞
