This is a cheap laugh, but it prompted me to dredge up the essay where these guys “unapologetically” apologize for lining up for gummint handouts. Oof. It has the sniffy, brittle delusion of an incel manifesto, all in a vainglorious effort to batter the world into shapes that fit the boxes of sophomoric logic. Faced with the smorgasbord of dystopia we call the daily news, people like to mumble you couldn’t make this sh*t up. Bah. I could make up 99% of this sh*t up before my morning coffee, but the tremulous wheedling of like-minded “Objectivists,” never. It leaves me with one rough hunch: “toxic masculinity” is a brilliant banner for rallying the masses, but (or, better, and) there also comes a point where categories like that are so broad that they hide as much as they reveal. Maybe someone’s already plumbed this and I just haven’t seen it, but the lines that connect murderous young non-men with think-wank market cultists seem like they need to be untangled.
