I don’t understand why everyone isn’t utterly fascinated by illustration, in particular by ’70s illustration. Why the ’70s? Because that was when the potentials of computation were really beginning to permeate society, but the imaging technologies weren’t there yet, so there was a very palpable gap between technical imaginaries and, as art historians say, the hand — a useful frame for looking at this by Saul Steinberg from Feb ’73.
