Apparently Russia wants to arrest Michael McFaul, the US ambassador 2012–14. If so, Putin’s effort to link the Mueller probe to his tax-evasion allegations against Bill Browder will get very serious. I was confused when Putin brought up Browder, because it seemed rhetorical — like throwing a bone to the US RW noise machine so they’d howl about HRC. But it’d be another thing entirely to issue an Interpol notice for a US ex-ambassador — hard to imagine RU would do that after the Browder fiasco in Madrid. But if it’s true, I think this will mark a much more aggressive phase in RU f*cking with Trump. It might just be an ad-hoc tit-for-tat response to Mueller’s indictment of GRU officers, and there are reasons to be concerned about the blowback of that indictment as an international precedent. But if it’s anything more than a rumor, this could be a pretty brilliant chess move: it’ll become a serious crisis for Trump, weaken the US foreign service, and entrench doubts about the reliability of US diplomacy. IOW, sounds like a plan.
