This book does look really good. Although the assumption that ‘theory’ was ever in any way monolithic, a thing, was always idiotic (and mostly American, an artifact of translation, IMO). But, like many idiotic things, it had diverse constituents whose careers relied on it in different ways: ‘theorists’ so they could embrace it, ‘makers’ so they could reject it, etc.
