Totally amazing. The most interesting thing here is the bit about the metadata on the document limiting consent decrees: the document was issued under Sessions’s authority, but it was finalized up after (as they say) he’d left the building. I don’t buy it, because it seems likely that he’d remain secretary until 11:59:59, not until he walked out the door. But it’s ridiculous that the fate of the USG could hang on a technocratic update of how many angels can dance on the head of pin. The real issue is the asymmetrical conflict between the simplicity of Trump’s neo-monarchism and the complexity of the rule of law.
