Bannon mostly seems to be an antinomian nihilist. As such, his MO relies on a few pretty straightforward habits of thought that are common in those kinds of circles. The easiest one to explain is just to invert normal assumptions: for example, if people fear a military coup, he’ll ask if a civilian coup is possible. It’s a lazy style of thought, suited to a parasitic cultures (e.g., Goldman Sachs): let other people do the hard work, then you swoop in, grab everything of value, and leave a smoking wreck behind. It can seem very out-of-the-box, but it isn’t really; by definition, it follows popular ideas, so it can be surprising but it’s never incomprehensible.
