Listening to these GOP members, it’s clear that their party is held together by really crude dynamics — entitlement, resentment, conformity, projection. Basically, straight right white guys stripped of all the brands they use to prop up their failed masculinity, so all they have left is: Trump. Not Trump the person or the business leader or the president: “Trump” is just the name of the catalyst their toxic brew needed to react. This is a formative experience for them, like a mid-life crisis on a national scale. Whatever happens to him, this cult will never back down, calm down, or go away. On the contrary, they’ll just become more militant.
