One reason — one of many — I’ve become Epipen-level allergic to yankee anti-southern arrogance is that it casts all southerns as white. This supposed whiteness of the south is itself a legacy of white supremacy. When you think about how snarky stereotypes about “the south” might sound across the spectrum of people t/here, you’ll see one reason — of many — that it needs to stop. We need an image of the south that’s founded on respect for its diversity and sees that as its future.
