Here’s a general problem that Trump presents: When he appoints ideologues like Michael Flynn, the left / lib / prog spectrum freaks out. But Flynn is just the tip of the iceberg: there are many more like him whose names don’t appear in public, and they’ve been working the whole time (Flynn was DIA chief 2012–2014 under Obama FFS). So would you rather have these ideologues hidden away or in plain sight? Of course I understand it’s more complicated than that (leadership, diplomacy, etc), but pretending them away because you aren’t being droned doesn’t fly. For many people in the world, the salient difference with Flynn is that the US is finally being up-front about it. That makes for some pretty strange bedfellows — for example, Trumpians and people across MENA who can agree on this point that Trump is finally telling it like it is. Who disagrees? The US left / lib / prog spectrum, which apparently thinks it’s better not to know about the power of these ideologues.
