I grouse about the NYT a lot, but everyone involved in this Notre Dame story deserves a Pulitzer. It’s astounding in its own right, but in less obvious ways it’s a stunning example of how to combine straight-up narrative journalism, quantitative material, media integration and interaction (yes, even at this late date), and — not least — the Times’s recent efforts to get it together on how it approaches gender. And to think that just ten years ago everyone was agog over the NYT’s Murder Map of NYC. Wow.
