This story got lost in its own weeds, unfortunately. It seems that the Trump transition people got laptops / phones / tablets from the GSA, used them to do [whatever], then returned them to the GSA — without having made arrangements to wipe them, I guess? Now they’re upset that Mueller’s team got the contents of those devices from the GSA “earlier this summer” — and, presumably, has been using them as a roadmap for aspects of their investigation. This strengthens my belief that Mueller’s understanding of the events was deep and detailed from early on. I don’t think Mueller’s problem has been assembling scarce facts to form a rough idea of what happened; I think his problem is that he’s had an embarrassment of riches all along, and the challenges have been more specific.
