Catalist’s “What Happened in 2024?” is a bleak, bleak post mortem of the 2024 election. Blame the electorate’s racism, blame its sexism, blame its ageism, blame whatever you want — then ask yourself whether that factor will be less of a problem before the next elections. (No.) Diagnose the problem as this bumbling, or that delusional strategy, or some other disorganizational problem — then ask yourself whether that factor will be less of a problem before the next elections. (No.) Chalk it up to “genocide,” if you like. Is the current national Democratic Party moving on that issue? No. Are they doing what they need to before the next elections. (No.) Are there signs of aggressive, relevant new generations of leadership coming up? (No.) Do monthly one-day national protests contribute to solving these problems? (No.) I’m very tempted to state the problem this way: The Democratic Party is the #1 obstacle to progress in this country, and any argument or strategy that relies on them is doomed to fail. I’m not quite there yet, but not far off.
